Sue Eichmann
Hamilton West, February 2018
Sue Eichmann nominated by Jenny Hall from Driving Miss Daisy Hamilton.
Sue Eichmann joined Driving Miss Daisy Hamilton 18 months ago after a 30 year nursing career. Sue took to this role like a ‘duck to water’ and is a valued member of our team. Sue has a great sense of humour and the most infectious laugh – she is quick to form relationships with our clients. She is a very caring, thoughtful person – I recently discovered due to a thank you note from a mother, that she had been treating one of our High School clients to chocolates before her exams and hot chocolate on early morning school rides. Sue picks vegetables from her own garden to help out her clients. These little kindnesses make such a difference.
Late last year Sue arrived to collect one of our senior clients to take her to the supermarket. There was no response to Sue’s knock at the door, but rather than give up and drive off to the next client, Sue tried opening the front door and called out. She could hear a muffled sound coming from the bathroom, so she entered and found the client in what she suspected was cardiac arrest. She quickly called the emergency services (who unfortunately had trouble finding them so there was quite a long wait) and stayed with the client to comfort and assist her until the ambulance arrived. Her instincts in checking whether the client was home saved our client from being alone in distressing and life-threatening circumstances.
Congratulations Sue, what a fantastic example of a Daisy Driver going the extra mile.
