On New Year’s Eve Therese received a call from one of her drivers, Cathy to say that one of her client’s she was about to collect for her regular outing, had just fallen in her room and was being attended to by nursing staff. Cathy waited with her client until the ambulance arrived and then followed them to the hospital, she stayed with the client until the daughter was able to get to her mother’s bedside. Only then did Cathy leave. The client had broken her hip and Cathy visited her in between jobs in the days following to make sure she was OK and she was not forgotten.
Cathy has a terrific sense of humour which endears her to many of our regular clients and at the same time, they feel very secure in her care.
Another long-term client who Cathy transports weekly to and from her treatment sent this lovely advocacy message to Therese just before Christmas:
“I just wanted you to know that you have such a wonderful driver in Cathy. I always look forward to my Saturday trips into Wellington with her. She is always respectful and caring and I can always have a good laugh with her also. She is a real gem. I feel like I have found a friend in her. I just wanted you to know you definitely have someone special working for you!!”
We really are very fortunate to attract such stars to our business. It is great to have someone as special as Cathy in the Driving Miss Daisy team.
