A mountain bike accident left Jonathan with a broken ankle, weeks of being non-weight-bearing, and months of rehabilitation ahead. In the early weeks, he relied on a wheelchair, then transitioned to a walker before walking unaided again.
Jonathan initially tried getting around by taxi, but they often arrived late and drivers struggled to safely assist him in and out of the house — creating stress and often making him late for vital physiotherapy sessions.
When Jonathan switched to Driving Miss Daisy, things changed immediately. Corlize and our North Shore team adapted the service to his exact needs:
- Collecting a key to let themselves inside,
- Calling out to let him know they’d arrived,
- Helping him into his moon-boot,
- Assisting him down two steps from the house into the garage, and into the car
- Safely loading his walker or wheelchair, and
- Securing the property safely before leaving.
He would not have been able to walk up the steep driveway to the roadside to meet a taxi there, and the angle of the driveway meant he couldn’t get into and out of a car without someone holding open the door.
The Driving Miss Daisy team also worked around his irregular work hours as a pastor, including Sundays, board meetings, and last-minute changes, ensuring he never missed important commitments.
As Jonathan’s mobility improved, the team adjusted — supporting him from wheelchair, to walker, to walking unaided.
In his own words: “Not only did they follow a standard approach of efficiency and caring concern, but they adjusted flexibly to my changing needs as I progressed… This has meant the world to me and has played a major role in facilitating my path back to wellness.”
For Jonathan, Driving Miss Daisy has been more than transport — it’s been a constant source of reliability, encouragement, and peace of mind.
